The World Digital Technology Academy (WDTA) successfully held its inaugural AI STR (Safety, Trustworthiness, and Responsibilities) virtual working group meeting, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss the organization's efforts in promoting responsible AI development and governance.
Professor Yale Li, Executive Chairman of WDTA, opened the meeting by highlighting WDTA's role as an NGO under the UN framework and its collaboration with the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD). He also announced the upcoming 27th CSTD conference in Geneva, with WDTA co-organizing events on AI on April 16th, 2024, and the Digital World Conference on April 14th, 2024.
Professor Li introduced the WDTA AI STR program and its three co-chairs: Ken Huang, chief editor of Springer's Generative AI Security book; Nick Hamilton, head of GRC at OpenAI; and Josiah Burke, HIPAA Security Officer at Anthropic.

Ken Huang, co-chair of WDTA AI STR and host of the working group meeting, emphasized the program's commitment to open standards and collaboration with various standard organizations, academia, and industry. He also mentioned the recent publication of the WDTA’s Declaration on AI Global Governance and two recent textbooks on Generative AI co-authored by WDTA experts and other top experts from the industry. The books are specified by WDTA’s Talent Development program as official reference books. One book is titled: Beyond AI: ChatGPT, Web3, and the Business Landscape of Tomorrow, and another book is titled: Generative AI Security Theories and Practices. Furthermore, WDTA STR is currently working on two open-source standards: A generative AI application testing and validation standard and a Large Language Model Security Testing Method, both of which are under public review and open to comments.
Nick Hamilton, head of GRC at OpenAI and co-chair of WDTA AI STR, provided opening remarks, highlighting the challenges of balancing innovation and regulatory efforts, as well as the shared responsibility among AI players. He also emphasized the crucial role that initiatives like the WDTA AI STR program can play in addressing these challenges.
Josiah Burke, HIPAA Security Officer at Anthropic and co-chair of WDTA AI STR echoed Nick's sentiments and stressed the importance of close collaboration for responsible AI development.
The WDTA AI STR working group meeting marks a significant step in fostering global cooperation and setting standards for the safe, trustworthy, and responsible development of AI technologies. The organization welcomes continued input and collaboration from all stakeholders as it works towards its goals.
